Research degrees in Modern Languages and Cultures

About the PhD programme

Research in Modern Languages and Cultures (MLC) contributed fully to QMUL’s strong performance in the 2021 Research Excellence Framework (the latest in the series of national evaluations of research in UK universities), as part of Modern Languages and Linguistics (with a 3.36 GPA)

We also have strong connections with external research centres, groups and institutions, including the Victoria and Albert Museum, the Leo Baeck Institute, the Ramon Llull Institute (Catalan Studies), the Camões Institute for Cooperation and Language, and the University of London’s Institute of Modern Languages Research.

Many of the research staff in MLC have held leadership roles in professional organizations associations. MLC also benefits from the active involvement of a number of associated scholars, including Honorary and Visiting Research Fellows.
