Our Centre is a vibrant, international community of scientists working to understand how molecular and cellular processes shape vascular health and drive disease. Our research explores:
- Molecular and cellular events within the microvasculature that regulate leukocyte trafficking (Nourshargh, Voisin, Rolas).
- Molecular pathways that mediate vascular morphology, integrity, and barrier function (Nightingale, Nourshargh).
- Mechanisms of neutrophil migration to lymphoid organs and role of neutrophils in regulating the adaptive immunity in cardiovascular/autoimmune disorders (Voisin).
- Vascular heterogeneity and plasticity (e.g. EndMT) in liver fibrosis (Dufton).
- Stem cell therapies for myocardial repair and regeneration (Suzuki and Lewis-McDougall).
- Ageing and cellular senescence in vascular physiology and inflammation (Nourshargh, Rolas and Nightingale).
- Endothelial cell changes that contribute to atherosclerosis (Evans).
We take a multi-disciplinary approach that brings together molecular and cellular biology and a wide range of inflammatory models. The Centre has particular strength in advanced imaging, including high-resolution real-time confocal microscopy and confocal intravital microscopy, supported by the CMR Advanced Bio-imaging Facility, which is open to researchers across QMUL and beyond.
Training the next generation of researchers is central to our mission. Our postdoctoral scientists and PhD students have an outstanding record of success, winning national and international prizes, securing competitive fellowships and progressing into leading academic positions around the world. We aim to provide a supportive, collaborative and internationally minded environment where early-career researchers can grow, experiment and develop their visions for the future of vascular science.
We are an open and welcoming team, and we encourage informal enquiries from talented individuals from around the world who are interested in joining us or collaborating.
