Degrees with Industrial Experience
How it works
The Industrial Experience year replaces your third year of study. You spend twelve months working full-time in a paid role directly related to your degree, then return to complete your final year. This turns a three-year degree into four years.
In your second year, you'll start searching and applying for placements. You won't be doing this alone as our dedicated Industrial Placement Manager is on hand to help you find opportunities, prepare your applications, and liaise with employers on your behalf.
While we can't guarantee a placement (the decision rests with the employer), we work hard to source vacancies and support every student who wants to take this route.
Why do a placement year?
Get ahead in the job market. A year of real-world experience makes your CV stand out. Employers value it highly and some placement students receive a graduate job offer before their final year has even begun.
Earn a salary. Placements are paid. Many of our students work at major organisations where competitive salaries apply.
Find your direction. Students consistently return with a clearer sense of what they want and the confidence to go after it.
Build skills you can't get in a lecture. Communication, teamwork, problem-solving under pressure - the transferable skills you develop on placement stay with you for life.
Where could you end up?
Our students have recently completed placements at some of the world's most exciting organisations, across tech, finance, media, energy and the public sector. Recent employers include:
Amazon · Microsoft · BBC · IBM · Accenture · Goldman Sachs · Morgan Stanley · UBS · Vodafone · Virgin Media · BAE Systems · National Grid · Fidelity International · G-Research · Expedia · Lloyds · OVO Energy · Johnson Controls · Tower Hamlets Council
Placements are available with large corporations as well as smaller and medium-sized employers, across the private and public sectors.
