Shaw. Made Different

Brand Marketing Associate Manager at Sotheby's in Shanghai, Shaw (MSc Investment and Finance) shares how Queen Mary was “instrumental in building the foundation for my career.”

Shaw. Made Different

"Queen Mary was instrumental in building the foundation for my career. The course design meant I developed a sound knowledge in areas such as global financial analysis, risk management, critical thinking, and adaptive learning. In one module we experimented with economic models to analyse different cases, which has been useful when dealing with the complexity of the Chinese business environment. I graduated feeling confident about my future, and confident in my abilities to analyse my chosen industry

London is a global miniature laboratory. A place to discuss economic policy in class and then visit finance companies after. The extensive culture scene really allowed me to get a dual perspective, where I could appreciate both the global and local.

The number of module options showed me benefit of breaking down barriers to become a well-rounded individual. There was the Bluebird terminal training course, taking a second language, English literature and so much more. As a result, my horizons have been broadened and my creativity has been enhanced.

Queen Mary knows the importance soft skills and offered many extra-curricular opportunities to help develop these. By participating in societies, clubs and events, I improved my transferrable skills – such as cross-cultural communication – which has been a real bonus for maintaining customer relationships."
