Anya. Made Different

First-year BSc Mathematics student Anya highlights the opportunities Queen Mary has offered her, and what these mean for her career goals.

Anya. Made Different

“Queen Mary has opened many doors in terms of career and social opportunities, allowing me to hone my skills, becoming myself even more, and further my professional development.

I chose Queen Mary because of its tight-knit, campus-based community. Everything is in one place, creating a welcoming environment where you feel a real sense of belonging. No matter your passion – whether it’s sports, art, or machine learning – there’s a club, society, or opportunity waiting for you, and you will find your people.

Every day, I achieve little goals thanks to the opportunities at Queen Mary. You can literally do whatever you want, and Queen Mary will support you to achieve anything.

The Careers and Enterprise team and my School have helped me research what’s essential for my career, leading me to develop programming and machine learning skills. So, I joined the Machine Learning and Banking and Finance Societies, gaining access to professional tools and internationally recognised competitions such as hackathons and cargo sessions.

From day one, you're taught practical skills to help you succeed in the real world and bridge the gap between university and the workplace. I’ve attended talks from experts at top companies and start-ups and learned from their personal experiences. Queen Mary equips you with the right tools to secure internships and, ultimately, a job after graduation."
