"I chose Queen Mary because it offered such a flexible and interdisciplinary Global
Development programme. Not only have I been able to tailor my degree, but I’ve had the opportunity to work across four different Schools, including History, Politics and International Relations and Languages.
There’s a great sense of community in the Department of Geography. There’s so much feedback, support, and visibility from academics, too. They really engage with the wider public, which feels unique. I’ve attended exhibitions at the Barbican Centre (which is an excellent place to visit and study) that they helped to run.
There’s a unique sense of community at every level, with support from academics who really engage with the wider public, listen to everyone’s opinions, share experiences, and inspire us to do the same.
As a mature student, I’ve tried to be really proactive and make the most of all the opportunities offered by Queen Mary. For instance, I did one semester studying at UBC in Vancouver, Canada. And I would highly recommend doing an exchange to any student.
With support from the Careers team, I've been exposed to different companies and different career paths. My goal is to work at an intergovernmental organisation such as the United Nations, and I've started volunteering at the British Red Cross as an emergency response volunteer. So definitely take hold of every opportunity and make the most of it."
