Research and Innovation

Queen Mary’s research and innovation drives progress towards the UN Sustainable Development Goals through collaboration, creativity, and real-world impact.

DREAM partnership – electromagUABC (Universidad Autónoma de Baja California)

Queen Mary has a Masters by Research pathway agreement with UABC: students complete taught modules at UABC, meet English language criteria, and then join Queen Mary for a research year, culminating in two awards. This supports international academic collaboration, building research capacity and contributing to SDG 4 (education), SDG 9 (industry, innovation & infrastructure) through cross-border research, and SDG 17 through partnerships.

CIMAV (Centro de Investigación en Materiales Avanzados), Mexico

Queen Mary offers a similar Masters by Research pathway for CIMAV students: they complete one year of taught modules at CIMAV, then a research year at Queen Mary, gaining two awards, on from each institution. Building global research ties in advanced materials, this contributes to sustainable industrial innovation (SDG 9), education (SDG 4), and global partnerships (SDG 17).

Industrial Strategy & Knowledge Exchange

A customised programme sharing Queen Mary ’s tested mechanisms for building partnerships with industry/local, national/international businesses — covering identification of partners, governance, management, and pitfalls. The overall aim of this course is to enable institutions to be more effective in their partnership’s development role and acquire the skills to build long-term relationships. This enhances institutional capability to partner across sectors, supporting sustainable industrial innovation (SDG 9), decent work & growth (SDG 8), and partnerships (SDG 17).
