Where is Queen Mary University of London located?

Our main campus is in Mile End, a zone 2 area of East London. Medicine and Dentistry courses are taught just down the road in Whitechapel, and we also have campuses at Charter House Square (Farringdon), and the Centre for Commercial Law Studies is a stone's throw away from the Royal Courts of Justice in Holborn.

Yes, many of our degrees offer work placement opportunities, and options for a year in industry as part of the programme. The Careers and Enterprise Team also support students with finding work experience, placements, mentoring and networking opportunities as part of, or alongside their studies.

How many contact hours a week do students get at Queen Mary?

Contact hours vary by programme, many will be around 8-12 hours a week, with additional opportunities to meet with teaching staff and module leaders in weekly drop-in sessions and 1-2-1’s.

What are the entry requirements for Queen Mary University of London?

How do I apply to Queen Mary University of London?

If you are applying for an undergraduate programme in the main cycle (any time outside of Clearing) you need to apply via UCAS 

Applications for postgraduate programmes are made directly to us via the link on course pages.  

Can mature students apply to Queen Mary University of London?

Yes, we have a large community of mature students studying on both our undergraduate and postgraduate programmes, and embrace the experience, knowledge, and perspectives they bring to the classroom.  

Does Queen Mary University of London offer any widening participation programmes

Yes, at Queen Mary we are committed to providing opportunities for underrepresented groups to access higher education. More than half of our student body are the first in their family to go to university, and 94% of our students come from state schools.

When can I apply to Queen Mary University of London?

Applications for undergraduate programmes via UCAS open at the start of September. Deadlines to apply vary depending on the programme, with the first equal consideration deadline for medicine and dentistry programmes in mid-October and all other programmes in January.  

Applications for postgraduate taught degrees (masters) typically open in mid-September for the following September entry (e.g., Sept 2027 entry opens in Sept 2026). Please check course pages for deadlines.

How many international students study at Queen Mary University of London?

Just under half of our student population studying in London and at campuses in Paris, Malta, Singapore, and China are from countries outside of the UK.

Does Queen Mary offer financial support/scholarships to international students?

Yes, we offer a generous package of scholarships for high-achieving international students. Undergraduate students applying for September 2026 entry may be eligible for the Global Talent Scholarship, which is valued at up to £12,000 depending on the length of your course.  

Postgraduate offer holders for September 2026 can apply for the Global Talent (£5,000), Global Excellence (£7,000) or President's Global Scholarship (£10,000).

Tuition fees, funding and scholarships

What are the tuition fees for Queen Mary University of London?

Tuition fees for UK students taking undergraduate programmes starting in the 2026/27 academic year are set at £9,790 for standard full-time programmes.  

Eligible students can apply for a tuition fee loan, which can cover up to the full cost of their tuition fees. Find out more

How much does it cost to live in London?

The cost of living in the UK’s capital might get itself a bad rep, but trust us, London can be and is affordable. From student travel cards and bank accounts to discounts and the numerous part-time jobs available on and around campus, you can live your best life while still keeping an eye on the pennies.

How do I apply for funding from Queen Mary?

How and when you can apply for funding will depend on the type of funding you are applying for. You can find detailed information on student finance and funding for undergraduate students here, and postgraduate students here.  

How do I apply for a UK Student Loan?

Applications for the UK Student Loan are made through the gov.uk website. The website also provides information on when and how to apply for your loan, when you’ll receive payment once you start university, and how it is paid back.

Applications for the UK Master’s Loan are made through the gov.uk website. The website also provides information on when and how to apply for your loan, when you’ll receive payment once you start your programme, and how it is paid back.   

Can students work part-time whilst studying at Queen Mary?

Yes, students can work part-time alongside their studies to supplement their income and gain valuable skills ahead of graduation.  

Our Careers and Enterprise Team even have their own employment agency Q Temps who support students with finding part-time work, internships, and work experience opportunities on and off campus. There are also lots of paid roles available to students through the Students' Union, and programmes including the QMUL Student Ambassador and Social Media Content Creators schemes.

Accommodation

Does Queen Mary University of London have on-campus accommodation?

Yes, Queen Mary is the only campus-based Russell Group university in London with student accommodation on-site. We offer some of the most affordable student accommodation in London, with rooms starting from £170 per week (September 2026 entry), as well as dedicated halls for postgraduate students, and accommodation at campuses in Whitechapel and Charter House Square for medicine and dentistry students.

How much does Queen Mary’s student accommodation cost?

Queen Mary’s accommodation starts at £170 per week for a non-ensuite room. We offer a range of accommodation types, including en-suite rooms and studios for postgraduate students. Utilities bills, including heating, Wi-Fi and cleaning of communal areas, are included.

What is it like living on campus at Queen Mary?

Living in Queen Mary accommodation is a safe, fun, and affordable way to enjoy student life at QMUL. Our accommodation at Mile End is located alongside the beautiful Regents Canal, and a few minutes' walk from lecture halls, the library, gym, and campus favourites like The Ground Café, Drapers SU Bar, and The Curve canteen.  

There is always loads going on, and our Residential Life Team run regular events for students in halls.  

Where do most of Queen Mary’s students live?

Where do most of Queen Mary’s students live?  

You’ll find Queen Mary students living all over London. If not living in halls, many of our students stay east to make the most of London’s most trendy neighbourhoods and the globally renowned restaurants, cafés, bars, and green spaces East London is famous for.  

Aspire Point, our dedicated postgraduate accommodation at Stratford, is also a firm favourite. Close to Westfield Shopping Centre and the Olympic Park, there’s always something to do and see.  

Our campuses have excellent transport links. So, if you find yourself further afield, or a commuting student, you’ll have various tube, bus, and train options to get to campus.  

Does Queen Mary have accommodation for postgraduate students?

Yes, we have dedicated accommodation for Postgraduate students, including Aspire Point in Stratford, a short bus ride from the Mile End and Whitechapel campuses.

Campus and facilities

Does Queen Mary University of London have modern facilities?

We are committed to continued investment in facilities and teaching spaces to give you the best possible learning environment.  

Alongside state-of-the-art facilities, including the Blizard Institute, Graduate Centre, and Institute of Dentistry, we’ll open a £25million refurbishment of our Informatics Teaching Laboratory in early 2026 and a new home for the School of Business and Management at our Mile End Campus in 2027.  

What library and study facilities does Queen Mary have?

Our libraries at the Mile End, Whitechapel, and West Smithfield (Charter House) campuses offer a variety of individual and collaborative study spaces, as well as all the usual resources you’d expect in a university library.  

Open from 8 am to midnight most days, and 24 hours during busy periods, they provide a comfortable, functional, and safe space for students to focus on study.

How accessible are Queen Mary’s campuses?

Our campuses have been designed to meet students' accessibility needs with purpose-built accommodation and facilities for wheelchair users, and students, and staff with additional mobility needs.

Yes, as well as dedicated accommodation for postgraduate students we offer postgraduate only study and social spaces across our campuses.

How safe are Queen Mary’s campuses?

Our dedicated security teams work 24 hours a day, seven days a week, to ensure student and staff safety across our campuses. There is also CCTV monitoring in place, and a rapid-response team in the unlikely event of a security breach.  

Our student accommodation is accessible via key card access, as well as being supported by round-the-clock security teams.

How good are the transport links to Queen Mary?

As a university located across central London, our campuses benefit from excellent transport links. Our Mile End campus is a few minutes' walk from Mile End and Stepney Green tube stations, whilst Whitechapel is just across the road from the station, which benefits from being a stop on London’s most recent addition to the tube and overground network, The Elizabeth Line.  

Both Charter House Square and Lincoln Inn Fields are less than a five-minute walk to the nearest station, and all campuses are serviced by bus routes across the capital.

How long does Queen Mary University of London take to respond to applications?

We aim to respond to all applications within a 4-6 week period, though this may vary depending on the programme and time of year.

For undergraduate programmes, decisions will usually be communicated via the UCAS portal.

What happens after I receive an offer from QMUL?

First of all, congratulations! Once you become an offer holder, keep an eye on your emails as we’ll be sending you information on everything you need to do before you enrol and invitations to join us at events like Offer Holder Days (undergraduate) and webinar series to help you prepare to study at Queen Mary.

Can I visit Queen Mary University of London before accepting an offer?

Of course. If you are holding an offer for an undergraduate programme, you will be invited to an Offer Holder event. These usually take place between February and April, and we hold online events for international students.

Both postgraduate and undergraduate offer holders are welcome to attend Open Events, which take place throughout the year, and you can also join one of our regular campus tours of the Mile End or Whitechapel campus.

What support is available during enrolment and induction?

We provide extensive support during enrolment and induction, including online pre-enrolment, so you’re not weighed down with admin when you arrive on campus. Our Student Enquiry Centre is also available to assist with registration and enrolment tasks, and we have our 'Get Ahead' online resource for academic preparation.
