IT support
Round-the-clock help is available to students and staff via Live Chat.
You can raise a ticket online by emailing servicedesk@qmul.ac.uk.
Steps for setting up your account
- Set your password and register for Self-Service Password Reset.
- Set up Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) - we recommend using the Authenticator app.
- Download the Queen Mary app (QMUL app on Android and Apple app stores).
- Set up and access your Queen Mary email account - important communication from the university will be sent to this, so remember to check it regularly.
- Log into MySIS with your username@qmul.ac.uk to access your enrolment information, registered modules, financial information, personal details, and provisional results, among other things.
- Log into QMplus to access your learning materials, timetable, module information, assignments, and more.
- Set up your devices to access Eduroam WiFi - you can do this before you arrive on campus so you are ready to connect when you arrive.
Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA)
Multi-factor Authentication (MFA) adds an extra layer of security when accessing some online services. You may already use some form of MFA for online banking or to access your personal email account. We recommend you use the Authenticator app as it is more secure.
- When you log in to SSPR, you will see your SSPR profile. This is where you choose your method of authentication. Go to the Security info tab and Add the method.
- Download Microsoft Authenticator to your mobile device from the Apple App Store or Google Play App Store
- Open the Microsoft Authenticator app. Select the plus sign (+) at the top of the screen
- Select 'work or school account' then 'Scan a QR code'. Use your mobile device to scan the code on your browser
- Select 'Next' once this has been done
- You may see a message asking if you want to enable signing in without a password. Please skip this, as it isn't supported at present
- Make sure you keep the app set up on your phone. If you delete the app, you may be locked out of your account unless you have set up another authentication method
- If you get a new phone, you will need to set up the app again on your new device before you delete the app from your old phone.
- If you need more help, read through detailed instructions on setting up and configuring MFA
Additional information
Equipment recommendations
Whether you’re learning on campus or remotely, we recommend you buy your own IT equipment. Many companies offer discounts for enrolled students, so make sure you have a look at these when you arrive and take advantage of student prices. You can find discounts through Totum, Student Beans and UNiDAYS.
The recommended minimum specification for IT equipment to be procured and used by QM students to study and take exams is as follows.
A laptop with:
- 8GB RAM
- Windows 11
- 256 GB SSD.
Connectivity should be via either:
- A broadband link with at least 10Mbps download speed and at least 1Mbps upload speed
- A 4G unlimited data plan PAYG SIM.
Note:
- It is recommended that if a broadband link is being used, the laptop is cabled directly into the router rather than relying on Wi-Fi (to improve reliability and performance)
- If you already own a device with a different specification (e.g. a hard drive that is not an SSD), that may be adequate. The above minimum specification is to guide you if you decide that you need to buy a new device.
The Queen Mary app
Queen Mary’s mobile app is available as a native app for Android (version 2.3.3 or higher) and iOS (version 6.0 and above) devices. The app allows you to do a number of things on the move, including: check your course timetables, log into QMplus and your Queen Mary email, search for and renew library books directly from your phone.
Printing, copying and scanning
Printers are located in Libraries, Student PC Labs and some public areas across all campuses, and can be used to print wirelessly from MyPrint. Larger devices in the Library also offer copying and scanning facilities in addition to printing. See up to date print pricing and how to top up your print credits on the IT Services printing page.
Specialist apps - Apps Anywhere
Apps Anywhere gives you access to specialist apps you may need for your studies. See what apps are available and how to access them on the IT Services Apps Anywhere page.
